Stretch
Limousine: Elongated Cadillacs and Lincolns
The extended limousine is longer than that
required for personal use and is typically used for the
transportation of partygoers to and from dances and weddings when
it is necessary to convey more people than would fit in an
automobile. The limousine is often based upon the automobile that
has body on frame rather than unibody construction thereby making
it easy to convert them into stretch limousines.
The stretch limousine and other limousines as
well will have transverse seating along the length of the extension
and this could be on one or both sides and allows the travelers to
face one another. The seating arrangement in the stretch limousine
is not like that of the ‘stage’ vehicle that consists of rows of
forward facing seats. The stretch limousine has a host of amenities
that include decanter with drinking glasses, mood lighting, privacy
divider, TV and DVD, stereo sound system and soda. In addition,
this kind of limo may be available in six, eight and ten passenger
models and are ideally suited for weddings, and bachelor
parties.
Adding
the Stretch to a Cadillac, Lincoln or Mercedes
Benz
It is not easy to build a stretch limousine and
it requires taking a standard, mass-produced automobile like the
Lincoln Towncar or a Cadillac Seville and making them into fully
loaded stretch limousines, which is a quite complicated process
that would involve taking the base vehicle and stripping, cutting
as well as separating them into two separate parts. After
splitting, the vehicle needs its framework extended with steel
structures and this is how the ‘stretch’ is achieved. This added
stretch module would typically require custom components which are
produced by individual coachbuilders. After adding the stretch, the
vehicle goes through body finishing and is finally painted over and
this is followed by fitting it out with the necessary electrical
fittings. This is how a stretch limousine is produced.
The most common stretch limousines are those
black or white creations that seem to be everywhere and it is
usually hard to distinguish one from the other as they all look
pretty similar. In fact they would pass off for the normal luxury
sedan if it wasn’t for the stretched passenger compartment and most
of these stretch limousines are actually based on Cadillacs,
Lincolns and Mercedes Benzes. However, there is an emerging trend
in which the stretch limousine is being based on exotic sports cars
such as the Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche. There is also an
exceptional stretch limousine that is rocket driven.
